1 ~ Completion

All things have a begging, a middle, and an end. This is the nature of life- the seed, the flower, and the fruit- and all of human relationships. Completion suggests the fullness of the moment and the need to transform an old form into a new one.

Clinging to the old form will bring only decay. When fruit is left too long on the vine, it rots. You know that it is time to move on, yet you are reluctant. Do not be afraid of hurting anyone’s feelings. Remember that you are responsible for your actions, not the actions of others. Mourn what is lost so you can move on. Do not be sad; be like the sun at midday who shines brightly, neither longing for sunrise or dreading the dusk.

2 ~ Holy Mountain

Native people around the Earth recognize mountains as places of great power where one encounters Spirit or where Gods or Goddesses reside. In Ancient Greece, Mount Olympus was the home of the 12 main Gods and Goddesses. In Tibet, pilgrims circumambulate Mount Kailash to bring prosperity. In Peru, pilgrims climb the ice-capped Mount Ausangate to receive the starlit and bring fire to the Earth.

The Holy Mountain invites you to go on a sacred pilgrimage to acquire vision and perspective. First you must accept the present situation as an opportunity to discover higher understanding. Find a sacred altar where other who have came before you have prayers and found wisdom, and make your offering there. Make a commitment to walk with courage, love, and compassion until you see with clarity the passion of it all.

3 ~ The Drum

The rhythm of the drum tunes you to the beating heart of the universe. It’s wood frame links you to the trees and helps you journey to the lower world via the roots and the upper world through its branches. The drumskin gives the shaman the power to the animal kingdom. Striking the drum calls forth the power of the thunder and the rumbling of the earthquake. The drum invites a trance state where healing and prophecy happen.

The Drum invites you to take the next bold step in your journey. The forces of heaven and earth are aligned behind you, supporting effortless action. This is not a time to push against the river- the current will take you exactly where you want to go, once you jump in! Collect your power tools and summon your courage, because it’s going to be a wild and glorious journey. Allow yourself to be carried by the rhythm of what is really essential in your life.

4 ~ The Child

The Child knows the way to joy and happiness. The child offers the returns of second innocence, a time born of wisdom and not of naïveté. This card allows you to correct your course and offers you a second chance. It brings you the possibility of redemption and entering heaven while on Earth.

The child is here to release you from the habit of being yourself, and to help you acquire a beginner’s mind so that you can see life as if for the first time. Remain open to learning and discovery. Who is looking back at you in the mirror in the morning? Become a mystery unto yourself, reconnect with a sense of childlike wonder.

5 ~ Vision quest

In the Vision Quest, you face your fear, embrace your mortality, and then meet face-to-face with Spirit. When we feel stagnant, a vision quest brings our lives into perspective. We realize our flaws, our potential, and the opportunities life is now offering us. We remain on a vision quest until we find the key to open a new door or write a new chapter in our lives.

Find clarity by spending time alone in nature. If you live in a city, go for walks in a park. If you live in the country, make sure that you spend time outside, in contemplation. Get off the couch, get away from your desk, go outside! Spirit helps those who help themselves, so set your intention and ask nature for a guiding vision for your life.

6 ~ The Rattle

The Rattle is the Spirit-caller, carrying the shaman’s prayer to the four directions. The body of the Rattle is like the Earth spinning in its axis. With the aid of the Rattle, the medicine woman instills a desired destiny in her future, closing with the prayer, “Great Spirit, May your will be done!” The Rattle guides us to pray for all the Earth, not just for our personal needs. When we offer our prayers for the highest good of all, everything we need is provided for us.

You want to catch God on the whisper, not on the shout. What you are trying to craft to your own desires and expectations is already there, standing before you. Do not spin the world to your own benefit. You are being offered the Creator’s tools, which must be put to use to serve a divine purpose.

7 ~ Answering The Call

You’ve been called. If you’ve been waiting for your life to shift, the waiting is over. Your true and authentic life is happening. If you’ve been hoping for a sign, this is it. Right now your spirit guides, ancestors and love ones who have passed are sending you messages, love and healing. You’ve been called and a gateway is opening for communications from the spirit realms. Now and in the days ahead, signs from spirit will be all around you. Watch for them.

Indigenous people look to the clouds, the winds, and the movement of animals to discern the secret messages from the Creator. In Native traditions, life is ruled by signs. Right now your spirit helpers are telling you that this is your time. The waiting is over. Sometimes, we spent so much time waiting for life to happen that we missed the joy in the moment. Cherish the here and now, and know that no matter what concerns you may have, in the deepest sense, you are ready. Believe. Follow the signs and miracles will abound. Your time is now!

Look for signs. They are all around you. The feather that alights at your feet, the penny that mysteriously appears, or the rainbow splashed across the sky may be a sign that Spirit is trying to get your attention. Watch your dreams. Messages from Spirit are often conveyed in the nocturnal hours.

8 ~ Ancestors

Wisdom is blossoming. Even if there are unsettling situations in your life, there’s a reason for it, and much good will occur as a result. Your ancestors are sending you incredible support to fulfill your dreams. Be aware of the coincidences, signs and synchronicities around you; watch for messages for your forebears. No matter what’s occurring on the surface of your life, your prayers are being answered in mysterious ways beyond your awareness.

There’s wisdom that dwells deep within your cells that’s a spiritual bequest from your ancestors. This wisdom has come not only from your forbears’ joyous, carefree times; it has also bloomed from their failures, deflated dreams, and seemingly wrong turns in life. Part of their message to you is to cherish every experience, for all of it will deepen your wisdom, compassions, and understanding, as it did theirs. Also know that there’s an innate wisdom within you… always. It’s simply a matter of turning within to access it. Native people always call on their ancestors for support- to ask for their help is to walk the native path. Sometimes you may be so focused on what’s outside you that you forget that wisdom is available to you from the spirit of your ancestors. Be willing to ask, for they want to support you.

Imagine that you’re traveling back in time to communicate and connect with a gathering of your ancestors. On this meditation journey, there might be one or two particular forebears who seem to reach out to you. (At different times in your life, different predecessors will be sending you support.) Give thanks for their support. The more gratitude you have for their help, the more they send you blessings and guidance.

9 ~ Shape-shifter

You can be anything you desire. Let go of attachment to your identity. See the world around you with new eyes. Be malleable. Experiment with different ways of viewing reality. See the point of view of others. If you haven’t been able to manifest your dreams, maybe you need to shift the way you see the person or situation.

In earth-based cultures, shape-shifters had the mystical ability to transform into other forms of consciousness. It’s said that these beings were not imagining that they were changing into a specific animal, plant, or stone; they could actually morph into another shape. Just because most people don’t believe it’s possible doesn’t mean that it’s not true. This card chose you because it wants you to know that your past does not need to equal your future. Simply shifting your point of view or your belief system can bring an entirely new destiny into being.

10 ~ Spirit Keeper Of The East

New beginnings. A fresh cycle is occurring in your life. Wipe the slate clean; it’s now time to release the old and start again. No matter what has happened in the past, it doesn’t need to repeat in the future.

In native traditions, the directions are honored. It’s believed that every direction has an associated spirit that can be called upon. In the great cycle of life, that east is the place of the rising Sun; It’s also associated with planting seeds in the spring time, birth, the waxing moon, and new beginnings. Pulling this card means that this is the close of one cycle and the beginning of another. Although it’s often difficult to release familiar routines, situations, or relationships when they no longer empower you, your native spirit asks that you’re not going to the old, but set sail into new waters. Face your fear and allow yourself to stretch in a new direction. Wonderful opportunities will be born in your life.

Stand and be still. Breathe and center yourself. Then slowly turn in a circle. Close your eyes and feel the energy of each direction. There’s a difference in the feeling in each direction. Stand facing east as the sun rises to sense the unique energy of that direction.

11 ~ Sacred Mountain

Be still, and take the time to move into the silent place within yourself. Locate your internal source of power. Meditate. Wait. Do not move forward until it feels right. Surrender to stillness. Do not take action. If you observe, rather than react, you claim your power.

From the vantage point of the sacred mountain, your power grows. In silence you’ll find your sacred witness. It is in the dwelling place of your soul. Move past the bustle and clatter of life into sweet quietude. If you’re in pain, don’t lash out; go into it until you find the source so that it can be healed. Resist the temptation to indulge in feelings of stress, urgency, and emergency. Your power is born in silence. This peace gives birth to your serenity. Seek solitude to listen to the voice of your higher self and awaken your inner wisdom.

Travel to the peaks of hallowed mountains, and if you can’t do this in person, travel in your meditation. Imagine yourself stop a high peak; you can see the world in all directions. Give thanks and offerings to mountains, wherever you encounter them. The Spirit of Mountain will deeply appreciate your gift.

12 ~ New Moon ~Promise ~

This is the time to launch a project, a new relationship, or renew something that has been put aside for a later date. With your intention and willingness to allow a full cycle to complete itself, that which you desire will manifest. The seed of that idea is ready to emerge from the darkness of your subconscious into your full awareness. The next step is to put into action what is required to fully realize this idea.

A promise has two meanings; it can be commitment and guarantee to yourself (or someone else) that a particular thing will happen. When your will is aligned with the will of Spirit and your intention is focused upon what you wish to have happen, there will be fulfillment, and the promise is kept.

13 ~ Tsunami ~Wake up call~

You are getting a wake-up call. It may be in the form of a significant loss or other dramatic event in your life, typically one that you were not prepared for initially. You may feel stunned at first, surprised by the unexpected events that are occurring. Yet you also know that it is time to draw back the curtain of avoidance and denial, and confront the truth the exists in the subtext of the event. You are experiencing a real life drama, so there is no need to amplify it more than it already is. Often when you look back after something like this has passed, you can recall the signs the forshadowed it happening. There may have been obvious clues that you ignored or omens that were so subtle they were easy to dismiss as imaginings of the mind rather than the voice of your instinct. There are many anecdotes about animals, operating purely on instinct, picking up in clues and naturally seeking higher grounds before an approaching tsunami reaches the land. To negotiate this wake-up call, listen closely to your instincts, while at the same time seeking the higher ground of spiritual truth.

14 ~ Wolf ~Instinct~

You have lost touch with your instinctual sensitivities. It is the result of cultural and/or religious proscriptions dictating that anything wild and instinctual is threatening and, therefore, has to e controlled or eliminated. Now is the time to overcome this limited mindset and tune in to the instinctual cues. Let the Spririt of Wolf be your teacher, and call upon this benevolent being for help identifying what those specific cues are saying. Shed some of your inhibitions with the only guideline being to “do no harm”. Experiment by getting out of the straightjacket of familiar societal norms and listening to those sensations in your gut that are trying to give you a message. It may be a warning or an urging to take action of some sort. Take some deep breaths, and simply notice what your bodily sensations are telling you. Your mind will be the receiver of that information, and your body and mind can learn to work more closely with each other once again.

15 ~ Rain ~ Purification ~

Purifying your mind, body, and spirit is the task that is put before you. Purify your mind by identifying a prominent belief that you carry about yourself that inhibits you from being fully engaged in life, from showing up 100 perfect of the tinme. Purify your heart by allowing yourself to breathe in and out blessings and forgiveness so that you can love even more deeply. Let yourself feel your grief— truly feel it— so that the rivers of your tears become miniature baptisms that help heal the wounds in your soul. If necessary detoxify your body (the temple and seat of soul). By changing your diet, doing a cleanse for a few days, or simply drinking more water. Increasing the daily amount of water you drink with deep appreciation for its purpose will revitalize your spirit. It is no wonder that in some indigenous languages, Water is call “lifeblood” as it is so essential to every form of Life on Earth. Take time to purify yourself.
